Last weekend was my brother's college graduation party. My mom always throws a huge, picnic style party for such and event and this was no exception. She orders the best food from the area (hello Chiarello's vodka rigatoni). If it were up to my step-father it would have been Coors Light and we're done, but they also had Yuengling and wine coolers.
Even though it wasn't my graduation party, it felt like a milestone as it's the last of my siblings to graduate from college and this party ran parallel to my hubby and I's agreement that Thanksgiving would be our next trip back to NJ. We traveled there so much this summer, we agreed that if people wanted to see us they're more than welcome to come-on-down, we've left all our weekends open for visits. So, in celebration I wanted something a little stronger while I enjoyed the day.
Enter my variation of a Dark 'n' Stormy. We've visited Annapolis, MD a few times now and it seems this is a very popular drink in the area. It's almost time for us to go back this year but I just couldn't wait til then so I decided that would be my drink-of-choice for the day.
Classic Dark 'n' Stormy
- 8 oz. Ginger Beer
- 2 oz. Black Spiced Rum
Colleen's twist on a Dark 'n' Stormy
- 8 oz. Ginger Beer (Gosling's)
- 8 oz. Pineapple Juice (Dole)
- 2 oz. Black Spiced Rum (The Kraken)
This was my first time trying this drink with the pineapple juice but what a pleasant difference it made. It was light and refreshing, and the ginger beer mixed well with the pineapple juice. And the only reason I choose The Kraken black spiced rum to any other was because I thought I'd be clever as the drink sounded sea-worthy!
